I think I’m more of a production-oriented person, rather than a social-service-oriented person. I’m more industrious than I am social and people-centered. I think I might be more introverted than extroverted, which might explain the aforementioned phenomenon. I would probably say I’m a hard worker and an independent worker.

I’m a “do my work and hand it in” type of person. That’s my comfort zone. I once considered careers like teaching, social work, mental health counseling, and librarianship. But I eventually realized that those probably aren’t optimal environments for me. Those jobs are mainly based on interactions with lots of students, clients, and the public, I guess. I guess every job requires some social interaction. So I guess you just have to “pick your battles,” and choose an option that you can do the easiest.

I think business administration and nonprofit administration fits with my introverted, industrious, hardworking nature because these areas are about overseeing the provision of goods and services. And it’s largely about organizational effectiveness, store management, products/services coordination, and working for the good of the organization/company. And this is not to say there’s no social interaction in business admin and nonprofit admin. A huge part of it is about interacting with coworkers, superiors, customers, local community members, and etc. *But I guess you usually have a cubicle or personal space to retreat to, every so often. And you also have a lot of desk work, office work, that needs to get done every day. So I feel that this overall sector fits more with my introverted nature, more so than teaching, counseling, social work, library science, etc. I feel that business admin fits me more than direct social-service, direct care. | When I was doing my video production internships and graphic design internships, I felt much more comfortable and in my element, way more than how I felt during my behavior tech and tutoring work. And so this is a really good hint, I think. I’m a “do my work well, and hand it in” type of person. And I like creative work, and working towards certain social causes, humane causes. I keep to myself most of the time, honestly. And I don’t really speak unless spoken to—unless I feel comfortable around a particular person, for some reason.

| Right now, I’m a student in an Mba program, master’s of business administration. The particular Mba program that I’m in includes a focus on nonprofits, which I really appreciate. I plan to work for both nonprofit organizations, and for-profit companies. And hopefully all organizations I work for will be for-benefit, maximizing social benefit, whether they follow a for-profit or nonprofit business model. And a company can possibly be a mixture of both concepts, I think. It can possibly utilize its profits for both shareholder and stakeholder benefit, benefiting both the shareholders and the general public, the community, the employees, and certain social causes. I’m currently with Mary Baldwin University’s master’s of business administration.

Throughout my journey of self-discovery, my career-orientation journey, I’ve learned that you ought to let go of all toxic thoughts and worrying. It serves no purpose. And; it’s all good, it’s ok. You live and you learn, eventually. Lesson learned. And; love is always the answer. And perhaps most soberingly; I’ve learned that life is a delicate balance between give and take; looking forwards and looking backwards; personal responsibility/individual effort, and collective responsibility; and yin and yang. It’s never one or the other. Rather, it’s both at the same time. Life is infinite shades of grey, rather than being pure black or pure white. We need both the “bright, blessed day” and “the dark, sacred night,” as in the song by Louis Armstrong, “What a wonderful world.”
